What You Missed at Horsetooth Rock!

Last week, we at HIFF entered our first festival-driven event over the weekend at The Mishawaka Amphitheatre with what normally wouldn’t have been such a daunting task- convincing our friends and followers to join us in the mountains and under the stars during summer solstice for an epic night of music from three super talented bands; Black Moon Howl, Post Paradise, and Love Stallion.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature was working pretty hard against us, with hail and heavy thunderstorms threatening us all week- the worst of which was to come the night of our benefit concert. We pushed through it, though, and made the best of it, taking away from it a lot of laughs, some hard-fought lessons, and overall, a night to remember.

We now know that a forecast alone can dictate a turnout when a typically-outdoor venue is expecting severe and/or unseasonable weather- in our case both. We also now know to never distrust the wisdom of a Magic 8 Ball ever again. And the biggest and best lessons came from working together with our volunteers and learning how to work together and build on our experience and preparations to ensure a truly epic Inaugural Year for HIFF come September.

We are incredibly thankful to the troopers who made it out to show us their support- it meant the world and we had a great time getting to know everyone more intimately than we might have been able to with an extra large event. Thank you. We’re happy we were able to at least keep you warm and cozy with the last-minute decision to move the concert indoors.

For those who couldn’t make it- you missed a great night of music, fun, and giveaways! We raffled off more than $1,000 worth of goodies from our sponsors, who helped us make this night possible. A very special shout out to Music City Hot Chicken, who kept us fed and was our main sponsor for the event.

To the right, you’ll find some fun photos of the evening from Robson Photography!

With our first event in the books, it’s time to shift focus back to film submissions, curating films, and prepping for HIFFCO2019. Make sure to check out the Tickets page for a list of events (tickets links to be posted soon) and our Merch page to start repping NOCO’s own Horsetooth International Film Festival.
